It's been a wild ride since I packed my bags and said goodbye to the Philippines. I had always dreamed of living in Canada, and I finally made it happen. But little did I know, my journey was far from over.
When I first arrived in Montréal, I was determined to learn French. I had never studied the language before, but I was determined to make it happen. So, I downloaded Duolingo and started self-studying. I spent three months pouring over grammar rules and vocabulary lists, but I still felt like I wasn't making much progress.
That's when I enrolled myself in a government program at Centre St. Paul. It's a language school in Montréal that specializes in teaching French to non-native speakers. I decided to give it a try, and I'm so glad I did. The teachers were patient and understanding, and I finally felt like I was making real progress.
Now, I'm able to hold basic conversations with native speakers. But, let's be real, my accent is terrible. I'm pretty sure they switch to English just to spare me the embarrassment. But hey, I'm still a work in progress!
I know that learning a new language is a marathon, not a sprint. And I'm in it for the long run. So, I'll keep practicing and making mistakes, and one day, I'll have a French accent that's worthy of a pat on the back.
In the meantime, I'm just happy to be living in Canada and experiencing all the amazing things this country has to offer. And I can't wait to see where this journey takes me next.
